Munnar |
One of the most popular hill stations of south India, Munnar has the retained the old world charm of British colonial period. The hills were cleared to make tea plantations. The tea gardens lie on the slopes like a green carpet, the beauty of which makes one spellbound. With clement weather throughout the year, Munnar mesmerizes one and all with its pristine beauty. The nearby Rajamala Sanctuary is home to the endemic endangered Nilgiri Tahr and elephant sightings are common by the Mattupetty Dam. The speedboat rides here are great crowd pullers.
Close by is the one and only Sandalwood forest of Marayoor. This protected area has mostly sandal trees. Troops of monkeys roam free in the wilderness.
